When we picked up this piece it was sad, it had seen much better days and it was hard to see the diamond in the rough.
This piece was painted black and all the details that give it all of its character were completely hidden; like the hand forged nails, the skeleton key holes and the beautiful small metal detail on one of the top drawers.

Once we had repairs done and black paint removed this piece started to give us all the cottage feels. With its super deep drawers and rustic feels we could imagine this piece as a storage chest in a cottage on one of New York’s great finger lakes.

We painted this piece a custom shade of green chalk paint but we couldn’t bring ourselves to paint the entire thing. The top of this piece has a real story to tell as well as those gorgeously naturally distressed top drawers. Every hand forged nail we removed, we found an intentional place to replace them in the piece. When selecting hardware we knew it would be a difficult task to exactly match the time period but we chose something to really compliment it. Our hope is this piece will find a new home where it can be passed down and enjoyed for another one hundred plus years.
